To Do ListWhat’s your To-Do list like? Is it full of small maintenance tasks including parenting and home tasks? Or maybe you’re drifting into every day with no To-Do list?

You can really get into the bad habit of living by your diary but actually only achieving getting through the day before it all starts again the next day.

Can you relate to this?

So the challenge is how to find time to work on the really big future / strategy  tasks when your day is already chockablock?

When I’m with my coaching clients who feel like they are on the treadmill to nowhere other than Stress city I get them to do this exercise…

  • Think about the last 5 years? How old were you?, What was your life like? What were you doing in life and work?
  • Did the last 5 years go slowly or quickly?
  • Now think where you want to be in the next 5 or 10 years. What do you want your life to look like? What will you be doing in life and work?
  • So are you on track from where you are right now to where you want to be?
  • Is time getting the best of you?

The majority of time strapped people find this exercise very powerful. The reflection about the last 5 years brings real clarity about how quick time passes by and once time has gone it has gone. It brings real clarity about the need to change especially if you want to achieve what you want to in the next 5 or 10 years.

So what can you do to get off this daily treadmill eating away your time and life?

Try these quick tips as a starter.

  1. Get a Real Clear Picture in your mind about what you want to achieve and where you want to be in the next 5 years. Write it down. There is a lot of talk about SMART goals but do you really use SMART?
  2. REVIEW your To-Do list. We know there is no slack in your chockablock diary however just paying attention to what is on your list and challenging yourself to find more effective ways of doing things can make you see some smaller time slots opening up. Does everything you have on your list need to be on your list? Are you being a creature of comfort and are you in a rut with the way you work? It’s time to jump off that treadmill!
  3. Add in a Dream Catcher Habit. This is the CRUCIAL TIP! Make sure everyday has a task in it that is focused on where you want to be in 5 or 10 years even if it is only for 5 minutes. This could be read something, research something, learn something….. just DO something. All these DOs will add up.
  4. Check you are On Track every week with your crucial dream catcher DOs.
  5. Wash, Rinse and Repeat

So if you are ready for more try these…
